"October 5, 1998 - Part way through my first
experience of this wonderful place - and in love with the world
around us here and the world Ursula is creating
inside - assisted of course by the leadership and
wise - interesting - adventurous fellow members of the workshop. The days bring amazing gifts - skies at sunrise that are breathtaking - visiting deer and
moose - rum cake that sets a new standard in cakes - endless
good talk - a needed lesson in the nature of cows.
Too short! Every hour - every day - every week! But thank-you.
Thank-you."

"I think of River Rock Studio as a privately
owned and funded conservation area. Ursula Reynolds' unique
vision to save this land with such incredible diversity of terrain,
bordering a major wildlife corridor, fills me with admiration.
Not only does she provide opportunities for artists to work
with and observe the complexities of the natural world but she
also saves precious habitat for moose, elk, bear, deer and cougar.
Her dual purpose educational facility is world class and has
been a rich source for me to use with my students engaged in
art and environmental studies."

As the inherent risk of world travel increases
almost daily, we look towards our own backyard for the escape and
respite we once searched for abroad. Nestled in the foothills of
the Canadian Rocky Mountains, River Rock Studio provides quiet
sanctuary from the routine chaos of our daily lives.
River Rock Studio was founded in 1998 by
proprietor Ursula Reynolds. "I felt such a connection to the
land, a rejuvenation, that I was compelled to share it," she
recalls. With a diverse landscape ranging from meadows and aspen
woodlands, to rocky ravines and free-flowing rivers, River Rock
Studio seems a world apart from the City of Calgary, which lies
only an hour away.
